Minister Pronk opposes attack on Afghanistan
[September 17, 2001]
Environmental minister Jan Pronk opposes bombardments on Afghanistan. A specific military action against terrorists is justified, according to Pronk, but a general bombardment would inflict a lot of innocent people. "The country is already wrecked."
Pronk warned the US not to construct coalitions with non- democratic countries. He knows that the US needs the support of Pakistan, but the US should not set them aside again after rendered services, as "has happened with the Taliban and bin Laden." Instead, the US should focus on democratic values in those countries. (Source: Volkskrant/ANP)
